JUPITER GAIT TRAINING
This type of therapy is often needed and recommended by a doctor when patients are recovering from illness injury. With the help of our highly trained specialists, standing and walking functions can be improved. Gait training can also help to develop muscle memory, build endurance, improve posture and balance, retrain legs in repetitive motion, strengthen joints and muscles, and increase mobility while lowering the risk of falls. For some patients, gait training involves learning to walk with certain assistive devices such as crutches, canes, or walkers as well as the proper sizing/adjusting of these devices to fit the patients.
WHO IS HELPED BY GAIT TRAINING?
If health conditions, illness, or injury, have caused an individual to lose their ability to walk, gait training may be recommended. The following are the types of conditions that often result in difficulties walking:
-
Broken pelvis
-
Broken legs
-
Joint injuries
-
Joint replacements
-
Spinal cord injuries
-
Muscular dystrophy
-
Lower limb amputations
-
Deconditioning
-
Knee, hip, or ankle pain
Gait training is usually encouraged by doctors soon after an individual has suffered an illness or injury that has affected the function of walking.
Other types of physical therapy may also be recommended. Before beginning gait training, a patient must be healthy enough for movement and physical activity. In addition, joints must have the capacity to support the physicality of gait training. A patient’s physical abilities and specific diagnosis determine the duration, intensity, and strategy used in gait training.
Visit us at Physiocare Physical Therapy for effective gait training. We are a direct access facility; so a doctor’s referral isn’t needed. Many of our patients are, however, referred by a doctor or another medical professional seeking to provide them with quality physical therapy.
